A heart-warming, nostalgic father/daughter tale from small town Texas. Annabelle, Jupie and Little Sister LOVE Halloween! Nine-year-old Annabelle is a fiend for Halloween and spins fantasies of the parties she'd throw if she were older, the costumes she'd wear and the food she'd serve. Back in 1965, it was all about the costumes, Trick-or-Treating, and being seen (but not recognized). When Annabelle gets sick and can't get out with her brother and sister, she's miserable. This is a tale of what happened on that dark and stormy night and how it turned into the Best Halloween Ever.
And remember, if you don't have a Kindle, no problem! You can download a FREE reading app from Amazon for almost any device, including PDF (to read on any computer).

Five Star Amazon Reviews!
"Who hasn't been young once and who hasn't looked forward to Halloween? This short story of three small-town kids who can hardly wait to go trick or treating is a nostalgic look back at those times, as well as a look into family conflicts. Their father is the strong, silent and compassionate type, and he comes through when it counts. A lovely slice of life, remembered. "
"I didn't know whether to laugh or cry as I read this short story that took me back in time. I remember exactly how those plastic masks smell and remember having wads of hair pulled out with the cheap rubber band holder. We could never afford the whole costume so only had the masks. Living up North meant wearing a winter coat anyway so the costume was hidden regardless. Thank you, Bobbi Chukran for another fantastic story."

"The real star of this clever short story is the town of Nameless, Texas (population 2,354,) where the people and goings on are about as quirky as you'll find. Bank robberies, a Thanksgiving celebration and a quest for a pork loin roast drive the story, but the characters are who you will remember."

"Dewey Laudermilk woke up Sunday morning and right away, decided he was going to take down that old pecan tree in his grandma’s front yard. There wasn’t much to do on a Sunday besides watch television, and it wasn’t football season. He was tired of watching bowling, and the fishing shows put him to sleep. Besides, they just made him jealous of all those big bass boats.
Once he made the decision, Dewey didn’t waste time. He got up, dressed in old jeans and his lucky Tasmanian Devil tee-shirt, combed his curly dark hair---running his hands through it a time or two---checked the mirror, admired himself, got on the phone and called in the heavy reinforcements.
It might take three rednecks to screw in a light bulb, but for something like taking down an old pecan tree, it takes a village. The redneck network was a sight to behold around Nameless, Texas, where Dewey lived with his grandma."
